Santiaga Dietsch, age 96, of Bridgeport, CT, passed away peacefully at her home on July 4, 2024. Fondly known as Negra, she was the cherished daughter of the late Sinforoso Rosa and the late Herminia Ortiz.
Santiaga was known for her exceptional cooking skills, often hosting events where family and friends gathered to enjoy her delicious dishes. Her love for travel took her across Europe, Hawaii, Panama, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and many destinations within the United States, often accompanied by at least one of her beloved children and their families: Luis (Mary) Rivera, Gilbert (Rosemary) Rivera, Daisy (Richard) Lajoie, and Robert (Rochelle) Dietsch. Her pride in her children, who all served many years in the United States Air Force, was evident to all who knew her. The glow of joy was unmistakable as she shared stories about her 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving brothers, Cruz O. Rosa and Marcelo Ortiz, who reside in the Bridgeport area.
She was a woman of unwavering honesty, sincerity, and a unique, unfiltered personality that endeared her to many. Santiaga's wit and humor brought smiles and laughter to everyone she met. Her independent spirit shone brightly, especially after becoming a widow at the age of 51. Despite the challenges, she relocated from Brooklyn, NY, to Bridgeport, CT, and ensured her family were well-cared for and provided for.
Santiaga's legacy of love, resilience, and dedication lives on in the hearts of her family. She is survived by a host of nieces and nephews, with special mention of Laurie Rosa and Mary Rosa, who were committed to her care and attention. Her life was a testament to strength, love, and the importance of family. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
