Ramonita Maldonado (née Pagán) of Bridgeport, Connecticut passed peacefully in her sleep on Monday, March 4, 2024. Originally from Manatí, Puerto Rico, Ramonita came to the United States for a better life. Shortly after migrating to Bridgeport, where she lived for most of her life, she met her husband Ángel Maldonado (pre-deceased) also of Bridgeport.
Ramonita was a key member of her community in the west end of Bridgeport, where she sold límber and provided child care services. A devout Roman Catholic, Ramonita’s unwavering faith influenced her ability to help others. She often hosted family gatherings in her house, where she loved to cook and also loved to sing.
A member of St. Anthony’s Church of Bridgeport’s West End, Ramonita was part of the Cofradía de Mujeres (Confraternity of Women), a Cursillista, and a member of the church choir. Later in life she joined Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Bridgeport’s East Side. Ramonita will be remembered for her laughter, her unshakable strength, her vocal prowess, and her love for her family.
She is survived by her daughters Naomi Rivera, Ana Pagán, and Diana Prieto; her grandchildren Eveny Williams, Bodine and Akeem Willis, Melisa, Yesenia and Jose Rivera Jr., and George and Daniel Prieto; and several great- and great great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024, from 10:00 AM -1:00 PM at Funeraria Luz de Paz, 426 East Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, CT. Interment will follow at Mt. Grove Cemetery, 2675 North Avenue, Bridgeport, CT.
