Minerva “Mimi” Watson, a compassionate and caring woman passed away on December 25, 2023, leaving behind a remarkable legacy filled with brutal honesty ,love, kindness, dedication, fierceness, & as authentic as you can be! Minerva was born on April 2, 1961, Minerva touched the lives of countless individuals during her time on earth. She was the rock & glue of her family! Her home was always an open door for many, whether it was with a plate of food or a couch to sleep on!
Minerva valued her family above all else. It was her proudest accomplishments as a mother to ensure that all her children graduated & furthered their education to pursue their dreams. Her commitment to their success speaks volumes about the type of person she was — she demanded accountability, expected discipline, was nurturing, and fiercely devoted.
With a great sense of humor that brightened any room she entered. Her laughter & smile was infectious, lifting the spirits of those who needed it most even if it was her who could use the encouragement. Her selfless nature was evident throughout her life. She understood the importance of finding joy in life's simplest pleasures such as sitting on the porch & enjoying some salsa music from artist like Marc Anthony & more!
In addition to her roles as a mother and caregiver, Minerva was always willing to lend a helping hand. She never allowed any child from the neighborhood or family member visiting her to leave without eating before heading back to their home. She took countless of people in to live with her when they were in need! She took pride in helping others and embraced opportunities to make a positive impact wherever she could. Whether it was lending a helping hand or offering words of encouragement. She consistently demonstrated empathy and compassion.
Minerva enjoyed spending quality time with her family.She especially enjoyed her grandchildren. She absolutely adored them!! She enjoyed the small stuff for example just something as simple as watching hallmark movies ..general hospital together on the sofa with her daughters ! Those shared moments created an unbreakable bond that will continue to bring comfort and solace to her loved ones for years to come.
Minerva will be dearly missed. She is survived by her husband Carlton Watson & her cherished children whom she loved very much: Iluminado L. Burgos, Miguel Gonzalez, Carlton Watson, Miguel Watson, Brian Zayas, Jose (Boobie) Obdulio Cruz, Elie Watson, Gloribel Martinez, Aida Zayas - Sat, Yolanda (Baby) Watson. She was a loving and devoted grandmother to Carlton "Anthony" Watson Jr., Yanice M. Gonzalez, Miguel Watson Jr., Brian Zayas Jr., Yolanda Watson, Jayvyn Lebron, Emma Watson, Bella Zayas, Cardi Watson, and Bailee Zayas. She is also survived by her sisters Sonia Lopez & Margarita Lopez. Also included her daughter-in-law Sharelle Thomas. Along with a very huge family filled of cousins,aunts,uncles,nieces,nephews,best friends & more !! She was very impactful in this life!
Minerva is now joined in the presence of the almighty God & with other family members who have preceded her in death which are her brothers the late Luis Lopez, Jr., the late Edwin Lopez, & the late Freddy Lopez along with her parents the late Luis Lopez and the late Obdulia "Yuya" Lopez.
Services to honor and celebrate Minerva's life will be held at Funeraria Luz De Paz located at 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport, CT 06608. First viewing will take place on January 7, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, followed by a viewing on January 8th from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the same location.
A Mass in remembrance of Minerva will follow at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church located at 25 Sherman St., Bridgeport CT 06608. The Mass will begin at 11:30 AM on January 8th.
Minerva will then be laid to rest at St. Michael's Cemetery, 2205 Stratford Avenue in Stratford, CT. The burial service will take place on January 8th at 12:30 PM.
Minerva leaves behind an incredible legacy of love and compassion. She touched the lives of so many with her warm heart and selfless nature. Her memory will forever inspire us to be kind, caring, and to cherish our loved ones. May she find eternal peace, knowing that she made a significant difference in the lives of those around her.
