Marta Maldonado

Marta Maldonado, beloved matriarch and resident of Bridgeport, passed away on September 12, 2024, at the age of 84 in her home. Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, on April 24, 1940, Marta to the late Serafina Medina and Luis Velez. She moved to the U.S. mainland at the age of 17, settling in Bridgeport during the bustling years of the 1950s when the city was a vibrant hub of opportunity for many. She is the beloved wife of the late Luis Maldonado.
Marta is survived by her loving children: Carmen (Iliana) Maldonado, Elizabeth Rivera, Madeline Maldonado, Marisol Williams, and Ernest Maldonado. She was a proud grandmother to 26 grandchildren and had the joy of witnessing her family grow with many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear sister, Trinidad (Trini) Sanchez, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sons Luis Maldonado Jr. and Robert Maldonado.
Known for her straightforward nature, Marta had an uncanny ability to see through facades and understand people deeply in a matter of moments. Her unwavering faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her through every challenge with strength and grace. Marta dedicated years of her hard work in Emson Research, where she worked until 1978 when she retired. Marta had a deep love for music and cooking, skills she honed with her husband's guidance and later perfected with her unique flair. She especially treasured her trips back to Puerto Rico, where she enjoyed spending Christmas each year, reconnecting with her family, roots and the vibrant culture she loved.
Marta's legacy of love, resilience, and dedication to family will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know her. She will be deeply missed but remembered with the warmth and affection that she brought into the lives of so many.
