Mariano Nieves, a cherished individual known for his vivacious, outgoing, animated, and humorous personality, passed away on September 29, 2024, at Bridgeport Hospital surrounded by his children and loving family members by his side. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 07, 2024, at Funeraria Luz De Paz with Pastora Irene Rodriguez of Calvary Baptist Church, and Pastor Joel Diaz of Iglesia Dios Admirable officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Grove Cemetery located in Easton, CT. Arrangements are by Luz De Paz Funeral Home.
Mariano was born December 27, 1945, in Toa Alta, Puerto Rico. Mariano started his family with Maria Martinez of whom they shared six children. The family resided in Bridgeport, CT for many years. Mariano was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Mariano enjoyed fishing and watching baseball on his spare time. His favorite major league team was the New York Mets. On his free time, you would often find him watching the local community league games at Seaside Park and Winfield Park. He enjoyed the outdoors and connecting with the people of his local community. Mariano lived a full life filled of excitement with a smile that would light up any room he entered. Mariano was strong willed at times, but he also had an enormous heart and an exuberant personality. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a distinguishing voice that anyone would recognize immediately. He touched the lives of many and always left an imprint on whoever he met. He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends and family. To know him, was to love him. His spirit of service and love for God will forever live in our hearts.
Mariano is preceded in death by his parents, Miguel Nieves, Eva Lidia Rosa, Maria Lissette Ortiz (daughter), Glady Nieves, and Teofila Nieves (sisters). He is survived by his five children: Miguel Nieves, Marisol Nieves, Mariano Nieves, Frances Ortiz, and Janet Ortiz. Eleven grandchildren Sheila Ortiz, Denise Ortiz-Lipowski, Darryl Wilson, Briana Wilson, Jennifer Rodriguez, Jomayra Acevedo, Mary Acevedo, Amanda Nieves-Santo, Andre Nieves, Giovanni Nieves; and Jannelis Nieves, and eight great grandchildren. Mariano is also survived by his sisters Maria Andino, Colassa Nieves, and brother William Nieves including his beloved nieces and nephews. A special recognition to Miguel Angel Andino (nephew) who he shared a special bond with and who he loved dearly.
