Maria Do Rosario Spencer-Fonseca

Maria Do Rosario Spencer-Fonseca, 81, returned to the loving arms of the Lord on March 27, 2023, at St. Vincent's Medical Center, Bridgeport, CT.  She was born in the Cape Verde Islands to the late Ana Maria Spencer and the late Manuel J. Fonseca.  

Maria was a devout Catholic who humbly served the Lord her entire life.  She was an active member of St. Augustine's Church in Bridgeport where she sang the Lord's praises.  She was a prominent figure in the Cape Verdean community who worked tirelessly as an advocate and translator who educated people on the immigration process.  Many in this community are indebted to her for welcoming and settling them into this United States.  

Maria leaves behind to honor her memory her dear siblings Serafin Luis Fonseca and Maria do Monte Fonseca, her precious nephews and nieces and a host of friends and relatives that will miss her dearly.  She is predeceased by her loving siblings Armando, Jose Carlos, Carlos Epifanio, Raul Spencer and Maria Auxiliador Fonseca.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023, from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM at Funeraria Luz de Paz, 426 East Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, CT.  Final interment will take place in Cape Verde.
