Maria Eugenia Bermudez Ilarraza

Maria Eugenia Bermudez Ilarraza, passed away on March 17, 2025, in Waterbury, Connecticut. Born on May 21, 1948, in Vieques, Puerto Rico. Maria was an incredibly compassionate woman whose heart overflowed with love and resilience. With nearly 30 years of service in the healthcare field as a Certified Nursing Assistant, she touched the lives of countless individuals, always bringing her Zeal for well-being and joy to every interaction.

Maria's sense of fashion was as vibrant as her personality. She was known for being very particular about how she accessorized her outfits, showcasing her fabulous collection of jewelry that sparkled just as much as the twinkle in her eyes. Her attention to detail was mirrored in her home decor and her craft skills as well; she was a skilled cook renowned for all the delicious cultural dishes we all love. Family gatherings were of utmost importance to her, and her love for her family was evident in every dish she prepared and every memory she created with them. 

Maria was a generous spirit, always emotionally committed not just to her work, but to everyone fortunate enough to know her. She overcame numerous obstacles throughout her life, standing as a beacon of strength and inspiration to all who crossed her path. Her legacy is cherished by those who remain to celebrate her life and ensure her memory lives on.

Maria leaves behind her loving husband, Ramon Cruz Morales, and her children: Carlos Ramos (Terry), Johnny Gonzalez (Monique), Raul Gonzalez, and Jacqueline Rivera and step children; Ramon Cruz Ibarrondo (Lymarie),Jose Luis Cruz Arroyo,and Carmen Cruz Cruz.Maria was the  proud grandmother of 19 grandchildren and cherished great-grandchildren. Maria also shared a unique bond with her 26 siblings, forming a close-knit family that echoed her values of love and support.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jonas Bermudez (biological father),Florita Ortiz Ilarraza (biological mother), Marina Serrano Ilarraza (mother),and Avenancio Ilarraza (father) who must have beamed with pride at the remarkable woman she became. Maria's family and loved ones will gather to honor her memory during a visitation on March 23, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Funeraria Luz De Paz, located at 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport, CT.

In this time of mourning and reflection, those who knew Maria will forever remember her not only for her incredible spirit but also for the indelible imprints she left on their hearts.
