Lydia Mercado, Age 77, a vibrant, genuine and beautiful soul born in Caguas, Puerto Rico, peacefully departed from this world on June 4, 2024, in Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut.
Lydia will always be remembered for her joyful and genuine spirit whose unwavering commitment to her faith was admirable. Her joy was infectious, and her love knew no bounds. She found solace and joy in spending time with her beloved family, cherishing every moment shared with them.
Throughout her life, Lydia immersed herself in various interests that brought her immense joy. From playing a simple game of Bingo to trying her luck at slot machines in the casino, she considered some of the best times to remember. Lydia was an active member of the Hall Neighborhood House Senior Services program where she enjoyed spending time with fellow participants. Her dedication to the Blessed Sacrament Church was a cornerstone of her life; she actively participated in different ministries within the church and touched the lives of many through her kind and giving heart. As we gather to honor Lydia's life, we reflect on the memories she created and the love she shared with all who knew her. Her impact will continue to be felt by those she leaves behind.
Lydia Mercado is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Victor S. Mercado. She is also survived by her children: Julia Mercado, Nelida (Nellie) Mercado-Russell (and husband John), as well as her grandchildren: Juan Mercado-Russell, Joel Mercado-Russell, Nicole Mercado, Ashley Mercado, Genesis Mercado, Idalis Bonilla; her great-grandchildren; her siblings, Carmen and Rafael Torres Hernandez and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her son the late Victor J. Mercado, Jr. she was preceded in death by her siblings, the late Alicia, Gregorio and Pablo Torres Hernandez, and her parents the late Gregorio Torres and Petra Hernandez.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Blessed Sacrament Church in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
This will be followed by a Mass at 12:00 PM at the Church.
After the Mass, a procession to the Mt. Grove Easton Cemetery will take place where Lydia will be laid to rest.
Lydia's legacy of love and laughter will forever live on in our hearts. May she rest in eternal peace knowing that she was deeply cherished and will always be remembered fondly.
