Luis Serrano

January 12, 1965 — October 5, 2024

Luis "Lu" Serrano, born on January 12, 1965, in Bridgeport, Connecticut and went to be with Lord on October 5, 2024 at Bridgeport Hospital surrounded by the presence of God and the love of his family. His departure leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to cross his path. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and brother, Lu embraced life with a spirit that was both infectious and inspiring.

A dedicated family man, Lu is survived by his devoted wife, Sarah Serrano, and his cherished children; Jennifer Luz Serrano, Luis Serrano Jr., and Jocelyn Marie Serrano. He took immense pride in his role as a father, nurturing a bond with love and laughter. His heart was further enriched by the presence of five beloved grandchildren, Aniyalese, Jonathan, Janell, Amir, and Elianna Rose, who brought endless joy to his life. Lu is also survived by his siblings; Maria Rosa, Miriam Serrano, Roberto Serrano Jr., Norma Serrano, Lillian Serrano, William Serrano, Alfredo Serrano, and Maritza Serrano. Lu is predeceased by both of his parents Roberto and Agueda Serrano, and his siblings Julio, Hector and Lydia Serrano.

Lu was a man of considerable talent and commitment, having forged a successful career as a chef. His culinary skills extended beyond the kitchen, as he dedicated much of his mission work to cooking for those in need. Whether it was the infirmed in the hospital or families welcoming newborns, Lu’s generosity and kindness shone through every meal he prepared. He not only nourished bodies but also touched souls, reminding everyone of the true essence of community and compassion.

A devoted believer in a Christ and active member of the faith community.  His faith laid the foundation for a life spent engaging with others. He was very outgoing, relishing interactions and bringing happiness to those around him serving as a testament to his extraordinary character and faith. He believed that Jesus Christ was the hope of his salvation and lived it in his daily actions. Described as a happy person with an infectious smile, he had a unique ability to uplift anyone fortunate enough to share a moment with him.

In addition to his cooking and family life, Lu had a passion for superheroes, especially DC and Marvel, with Batman being his favorite icon. To Lu, Batman represented hope, a sentiment that resonated deeply with his own resilient spirit. Lu was blessed with the opportunity to have the Dark Knight of Connecticut visit him during his last days at Bridgeport Hospital which meant the world to him.  This final wish was made possible by the thoughtfulness and generosity of Dr. Molain Saintilus and his wife Nina.

Even during the adversities and physical challenges he faced in the last 14 years of his life, Lu persevered with a bright smile and unwavering positive attitude. Lu endured with the help of the unfailing love and support of his beloved wife who stayed true to her vows of for better or for worse, in sickness and in health to the very last moment. His son “Booboo” too sacrificed so much, going above and beyond to care for Lu with a tender, loving heart and it did not go unnoticed.

In his final days in the hospital, Lu was surrounded by love, faith, and hope, living out his days as he always had — with a radiant heart that prayed for everyone. His legacy will not only live on through the memories shared by his loved ones but will also echo in the acts of kindness he performed during his lifetime.

Lu’s memory will be honored during a visitation on October 17, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on Friday, October 18 from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm at Funeraria Luz De Paz, located at 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport, CT.  He will be laid to rest on Friday, October 18 at 12:30 pm at Mt. Grove Cemetery, 2675 North Ave., Bridgeport, CT.

The family would like to give their most sincere appreciation to Lu’s brothers- in-law Ed "Macho", Ramon, Robert (Bobby) and Angel who selflessly gave of themselves to ensure that he had the opportunities to experience life as an able-bodied person and treating him with dignity.  Additionally, they would like to thank the extraordinary nursing team at Bridgeport Hospital, West Tower 7.  This group of skilled and compassionate professionals allowed for Lu and his loved ones to share 10 truly gratifying days and allow his final days to be that of peace and love. The family would also like to thank Dr. Joseph Tortorello - his Primary Care Physician and friend as well as Dr. Peter McAllister - his neurologist. To all of these angels on earth please know that you will be in the family's prayers. Thank you.

As we remember Lu, let us celebrate the life of a man who embodied the virtues of love, service, and unwavering hope. He may have departed from our sight, but he will forever remain in our hearts.
