Julio Calvao, 77, of Ansonia, returned to the Loving Arms of the Lord on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was born to the late Virginia Martins-Dias on May 15, 1944, in Chaves, Portugal. Julio proudly served in the Portuguese Armed Forces, married his beloved wife, Maria Filomena Calvao on October 3, 1970, and moved to Bridgeport, CT in the United States to start a family. As a plumber, he tirelessly dedicated his career to the ACME United Corporation until its closing and the Bodine Corporation in Bridgeport until his retirement.
Julio loved to stay active, watching and rooting for the Mets, the Patriots, and Benfica (or really watching ANY Soccer), and was proud of the United States, making sure to keep up on his news and politics. Most of all, he tremendously enjoyed and loved to be surrounded by his friends and family. He spent countless days with his wife walking at Seaside Park or the Riverwalk in Ansonia/Derby, chasing the grandkids, or giving advice to anyone of us who needed it, eternally being the steady and reliable hand everyone needed and turned to.
He is the loving father of Artur (Maribel) Calvao, Diana (Stavros) Mirtsopoulos, and Julio A. (Jessica) Calvao; the adoring grandfather of Ashley Calvao, Samantha Calvao, Julio Calvao, Xavier Calvao, Pasxalis Mirtsopoulos, and Aliciana Mirtsopoulos; and the brother of Maria de Lurdes Warrick, Maria Luisa Dias-Tawfik, and Helena Jarrin. Besides his mother, he was predeceased by his father Adriano Dias.
Friends and Family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at 10 AM in Assumption Catholic Church, 61 N. Cliff St, Ansonia, CT 06401. His interment will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery, 2205 Stratford Ave, Stratford, CT 06615.
