Jose Gonzalez

Jose Gonzalez, 94, of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully at Bridgeport Hospital on June 15, 2020. He was born January 9, 1926, in Aibonito, Puerto Rico to Manuel Gonzalez and Rogelia (Moreno) Gonzalez. Jose was one of nine children. Jose was married on August 20, 1960, to his beloved wife, Petra (Vazquez) Gonzalez, and they shared just shy of 60 wonderful years of marriage together. Jose went to school in Puerto Rico and served in the U.S. Army from 1945 – 1957. He was employed by the City of Bridgeport in the Sanitation Department. Upon retirement, Jose worked as a school crossing guard for 5 years. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. Jose is predeceased by his wife Petra Gonzalez who passed away on April 29, 2020; his son Jose Jr.; three brothers Gregorio, Thomas and Luis Gonzalez; two sisters Carmen DeJesus and Joaquina Negron. He is survived by three sons; Victor, Alfredo and wife Deborah, Roberto Sr. and wife Loida, and daughter Mirna; ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters; Evangelina Ortiz, Silvina Gonzalez and Virginia Gonzalez-Aponte’ and one sister-in-law, Matilda Gonzalez. Jose also leaves behind many cherished family members and a very special niece, Sandra Aponte’ whom he looked forward to spending his Saturdays with. Funeral services will be conducted at Luz De Paz Funeral Home, P.A., 426 E. Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, with full Military Honors on June 22, 2020. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon. Interment will follow immediately at State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, CT.
