Jose A. Torres

Jose A. Torres, born November 16, 1959, in Lares, Puerto Rico, peacefully passed away on July 4, 2024, in Bridgeport, CT. A resident of Bridgeport for most of his life, Jose was known for his friendly nature, honesty, and unwavering protection of his family. His devotion to his mother Lydia Santiago Mercado, was evident as he ensured she had her morning coffee every day, a small gesture that spoke volumes about his attentive and caring character.

He was the father of Jessica McGee, Erica Torres, and Duran Reid.  His good heart extended to everyone he met, leaving a legacy of kindness and warmth. Jose was also surrounded by the love of his nieces and nephews and he is also survived by his siblings Americo Santiago, Jose Diaz, Nilda L. Diaz, Luz Lopez, Carmen Torres, Hector Torres, Maribel Maldonado, and Rosa Mercado.  He was preceded in death by one sister the late Nilda Torres.  

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024, from 2-4 PM at the Funeraria Luz de Paz, 426 E. Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, CT. The final disposition will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

Jose A. Torres embraced his Puerto Rican heritage while making Bridgeport his home. As he transitions into eternal life, his spirit will continue to be a beacon of love and strength for those who knew him.
