Hiram Rivera

Hiram G. Rivera of Bridgeport, CT passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on Saturday, April 19, 2025. Originally from Arecibo, PR, he was one of nine children in his family, the son of Antonio Rivera and Felipa Garcia. Hiram was a resident of Bridgeport for nearly 70 years. He proudly worked for over 40 of those years for Bridgeport Metal Good before retirement. He is predeceased by his beloved partner Maria, siblings Estilita, Raquel, Iris, Esther, Carmelo and Rusty, and his furry companions Kojack, Jiffy and Chopper. His family gains comfort knowing that he will be reunited with these loved ones once again.

He is survived by his daughter Salome (Frank) of Connecticut, stepchildren; Linda and Debbie (Russel) of Connecticut, Dave (Rosy) and Eillen (Floyd) of Florida; his sister Loli of Puerto Rico and brother Israel of Connecticut, as well as, many nieces, nephews and extended family members. In his final years, he was lovingly cared for by Emily and Carmen, both of whom were instrumental in his caretaking and making his final years at home feeling safe, cared for and loved. Hiram had a sarcastic wit and had no qualms saying what was on his mind. He loved his Puerto Rican heritage and sharing with others the music, food and culture. He would often be found while healthy, playing Dominos or Bingo, bargain hunting, feeding squirrels, singing with the birds, tending to his love of gardening and plants, planning and gathering friends for a "cook-out", enjoying a good meal and cooking up a scramble egg or hot dog for his furry pals. He had an optimistic spirit and even in challenged health would ask "play my numbers" for the lottery, in hopes of winning it big. Hiram will be fondly remembered as a loving father, partner, brother, uncle and friend. Friends and family may gather for a memoriol service on Friday, May 2, 2025 from 5pm-7pm at Funeraria Luz de Paz 426 E. Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06608.
