Our dad, Ferdinand Ferrao Sr. (Freddy), was a gentle man. He didn't have much, but he showed us to be proud with what you do have. He was a hard worker, who cared for everyone and would put everyone first before himself. He would provide for everyone or anyone with no hesitation. He loved all his children equally, and the ones that he raised in our home on Colorado Ave. as his own child be it Maritza, William, Vivian, & Antwan. He truly lived life to the fullest. A true man of no shame. His passion was cooking. He was a chef by trade. He could whip up a meal in no time. He loved our mom Isabel unconditionally.
When we were younger, he couldn't wait to get out from work to take us to City Island or Coney Island, while living in NY, or Lake Mohegan once living in CT so that we would be happy for the day.
For a man with little to give, he made you feel special. He was also good in taking us to some questionable areas, but back in the day that was the norm. No one questioned it. He loved all his grandchildren equally so as long as none of them spilled the beans that he drove them after school to OTB to place a bet on a horse. We found out when the kids came home with money and ice cream.
He never stopped loving our spouses, Ferdinand Jr.'s wife, Evelyn, William's wife, Jahida, Vivian's husband, Lane, and Mari's husband, Enick since the day he met them.
Right now our hearts are ripped apart, but we take comfort in that he is no longer suffering.
We're going to miss our dad. May you rest in peace dad and may the Lord comfort your soul. We love you forever!
