Esteban Nieves, a devoted servant of his community and an embodiment of humility and integrity, passed away on January 9, 2025, at the age of 87 in Frostproof, Florida. Born on September 2, 1937, in Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico, Esteban dedicated over four decades of his life to the University of Bridgeport, where his talents as a facilities and electrical specialist became invaluable. His steadfast commitment and vigorous work ethic earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues, reflecting a career that was not merely a job, but a vocation steeped in pride and diligence.
Esteban's life was characterized by a rare blend of strength and gentleness. He was a physically handsome and fit man, yet it was his inner beauty—marked by a spirit filled with kindness and selflessness—that truly shone through. Friends and family fondly recall his gorgeous smile and his infectious belly laughs, which could light up even the darkest days. Known as a jokester in every sense, Esteban had an open and approachable demeanor, making him a confidant and father figure to many, including Kira and Israel Soto. His ability to uplift those around him was apparent through his patient nature and the genuine joy he took in putting others at ease.
As a proud but humble man, Esteban exuded character that inspired all who crossed his path. He dedicated himself to innumerable projects that showcased his love for nature and the outdoors; be it through his passion for barbecuing in the backyard, playing horseshoes with friends, or cultivating his fruitful garden filled with vegetables that nourished both body and soul. His laughter often echoed through such moments, creating cherished memories within his community.
Esteban's faith was a cornerstone of his life; he was a devout Seventh Day Adventist who served as a church elder. He took great pride in serving God, his church, and the broader community. Despite facing significant trials and heart-wrenching losses, including the passing of loved ones, his unwavering belief in life and faith in God remained a testament to his character.
He leaves behind a loving family, highlighted by his cherished wife, Victoria Nieves, his six children: Steven Sr., Ann, Steven Jr., Michael, Alisa, and Jessica. Esteban's legacy also lives on through his stepchildren—Marta Monika, Jose (Maribel), and Victor—along with a sizable extended family comprising 25 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, and 4 step-great-grandchildren. His bond with his beloved sister, Martina Rosa, and the numerous nieces and nephews who adored him spoke volumes about the familial love that surrounded him.
Esteban was preceded in death by his parents, Felipa Medina and Pedro Nieves, and siblings Magdalena, Juan, Guillermo, and Mario. Their memories remain intertwined with his own, as he carried their lessons and love throughout his life.
A viewing honoring Esteban Nieves will take place on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Funeraria Luz De Paz in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Subsequently, he will be laid to rest at Lawncroft Cemetery in Fairfield, Connecticut.
