After a long and courageous battle, Elvin Rivera 51, returned to the loving arms of the Lord at the Connecticut Hospice Center in Branford, CT. He was born in Brooklyn, New York to Teodoro "Junior" Rivera and Guillermina "Yiyi" Orta. He was the devoted husband of Gloria Ivette Rivera. He was raised in New York, Puerto Rico and Connecticut. Upon graduating from high school Elvin attended the University of Connecticut and served in the United States Army. While in college he pledged to Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He was a dedicated driver of CT Transit for a number of years. He was a sports enthusiast who followed the New York Mets (during the good and bad), the New York Giants and most importantly the UCONN Huskies. Elvin was larger than life. He worked hard, played hard and loved hard. His free spirit endeared him to many. Elvin enjoyed traveling with his beautiful wife to exotic destinations. He was a loyal friend whom many counted on whether it was for a ride, a laugh or to play a competitive game of pool. Elvin was a truly generous soul who gave of himself endlessly to his family, friends and all those in need. He was a fierce protector of all those that he loved and advocated for them endlessly. Elvin's brilliant personality and bright smile will be missed by all. Aside from his parents and soul-mate Ivette, Elvin leaves behind to cherish so many tender memories his precious daughter Uniese, his adoring grandchildren Ivanette Rodriguez, Jovian Rodriguez, Niani Ruiz and Damian Ruiz, his loving sisters Darlin and Jasmin Rivera, his caring stepmother Polita Paz Rivera and a host of friends and relatives. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 from 6:00 - 9:00 PM at Funeraria Luz de Paz, 426 East Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, CT.
