Egda Irizarry, age 77, of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2024 at Bridgeport Hospital. Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Esteban and Felicita Ruiz Irizarry. Egda had many talents, early in her career she worked at Carnival Toys and later worked at Bridgeport Hospital in the Food and Nutrition Department. She continued her career in the food service industry working at Waldbaum's where she later retired. She was a gentle soul with such a sweet smile. Egda had amazing vocal talents singing alongside her siblings and could out pace anyone as she danced salsa and merengue. She had a strong passion for poem writing, she authored over 44 poems and often shared them with family members on special occasions.
She was a loving sister, aunt, cousin and friend who always enjoyed family functions and all holidays. Her warm smile would always light up the room. She had a heart of gold, always so grateful and humble in every way!
She is survived by her siblings, six brothers and sisters, Nestor Irizarry and his wife Evelyn, Estenia Martinez, Wanda Muniz, Evelyn Irizarry, George Irizarry and his wife Ingrid and Albert Irizarry and his wife Ada, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law. She was predeceased by a brother, Efren Irizarry who is survived by his wife Nylda and her recently deceased sister, Lourdes Quintana who is survived by her husband William.
We want to thank the nurses at Bridgeport Hospital and Health Services who treated Egda with compassion and care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on April 26, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. directly at the St. Mary Church, 25 Sherman, Bridgeport CT 06608. Interment will follow in Mountain Grove Cemetery of Easton, 100 Harvester Road, Easton, CT.
