Efrain Rivera Sr., born on June 8, 1949, in Puerto Rico, passed away in the comfort of his home in Trumbull, CT, on December 7, 2024. He was a beloved father, great grandfather, grandfather, brother, and friend who touched the lives of many with his unwavering spirit and compassion.
For over 25 years, Efrain dedicated himself as a diligent maintenance worker at St. Mark's Daycare, with Frankie, White. He took immense pride in his work, fostering a sense of community and care that resonated deeply with those who knew him. Efrain was devastated when extreme medical conditions forced him to retire; his perseverance, strong honesty, and integrity shone through in every aspect of his life.
Efrain's personality was characterized by a remarkable sense of humor that could light up any room. He was well-versed in the Bible, a testament to his deep-rooted faith, and found solace in listening to worship music. In his leisure time, he enjoyed studying the Bible; his love for the written word enriched his life and inspired others to cultivate their faith alongside him. An excellent cook, Efrain delighted his family with his culinary creations and was known for his sharp dressing—a reflection of his vibrant character. He often sought the tranquility of Beardsley Park, where he found peace and a connection to nature.
Efrain was immensely proud of his family, particularly his children, and he never lost faith in others, a value he instilled in those around him. He beamed with pride when his son recently earned his bachelor’s degree, celebrating this milestone as one of his proudest accomplishments.
Efrain leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to his children: Efrain Rivera Jr., Armando Rivera, Patricia Rivera, Migdalia Hernandez, Gilberto Hernandez, David Hernandez, Maria Hernandez, Denise Jackson, Alberto Hernandez, and Sarah Morales. He also cherished his 23 grandchildren, who brought boundless joy to his life.
Efrain was preceded in death by his father, Cextilio Rivera, and his mother, Ramonita Ortiz Rivera. He is survived by his beloved siblings: Johnny Rivera, Levi Rivera, Sextilia Gonzalez, Damaris Rivera, and Sandra Rivera, who will carry his memory forward in their hearts as well as a host of friends, family and colleagues that will miss him dearly.
A visitation to honor Efrain Rivera Sr. will be held on December 11, 2024, from 6 PM to 9 PM and Thursday, December 12 from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Funeraria Luz De Paz, located at 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport, CT. Interment will take place on December 12 at 11:30 AM at Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport, CT
Efrain Rivera Sr. will be remembered as a man of tenacity, kindness, and faith—a guiding light in the lives of many. His presence will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire those he touched.
