Dr. Leopold Strubbe

Dr. Leopold Strubbe Planas, known affectionately as Leo, was born on July 18, 1952, in New York, New York. His journey through life was marked by a profound dedication to medicine and an unwavering passion for improving the lives of those around him. Dr. Strubbe Planas practiced medicine in Ponce, Puerto Rico, where he left an indelible mark on his community through his compassionate care and commitment to helping others. After facing health challenges that necessitated a transition, he moved to Connecticut, where he met his wife Elizabeth.

A proud alumnus of La Universidad Católica in Puerto Rico, Leo earned his Bachelor's degree before furthering his education at Universidad Central del Este in San Pedro de Macoris, R.D., where he obtained his medical degree. He completed his residency in surgery in Ponce, Puerto Rico demonstrating an exceptional commitment to honing his skills and knowledge in the service of his patients.

Leo was not only a diligent physician but also a man of joyful spirit who loved to laugh. He recently took up learning the guitar, embracing new challenges with the same enthusiasm that characterized his approach to life. His zest for existence was evident in the warmth he exuded and the laughter he inspired in those around him.

His legacy is epitomized by the pride he held for his family. Leo is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Martinez Strubbe, and his cherished children: Yvonne, Leopoldo, Ana, and Vanessa. Additionally, he rejoiced in the blessings of grandchildren Viviana Castillo, Monica Strubbe, Guillermo Serrano, and Lara Serrano, who brought immense joy to his life.

Dr. Planas will also be remembered and missed by many aunts, cousins, and friends who enriched his life with their companionship and support. He was predeceased by his parents, Leopoldo Strubbe Melendez and Juanita Planas Strubbe, and his siblings, Nelson Strubbe Planas and Maritza Strubbe Salls. Their memories remain close to the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A visitation honoring Dr. Leopold Strubbe Planas will take place on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at Funeraria Luz De Paz, located at 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport, CT, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. As we gather to celebrate his life, let us remember the laughter, love, and legacy he leaves behind—a testament to a life well-lived and the countless lives he touched along the way.
