Dorothy O. Rivera, age 94, of Norwalk, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at home on April 4, 2025. Born in Greensboro, North Carolina, on July 6, 1930, she was the cherished daughter of the late James Mobley and the late Nishie McKinney-Mobley. Her life embodied the essence of a virtuous woman, leaving behind an enduring legacy of faith, love, and devotion that touched everyone who knew her. Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Luis R. Rivera, her children, Steven McKinney, Valerie Harris, Gregory McKinney, and Melvin Brown, granddaughter Dawn Harris, and great granddaughter Chole. As the proud matriarch of her family, she leaves behind herchildren Roger (Mamie) Brown, Tony (Sylvia) Rivera, and Cheryl Rivera. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren her dear sister, Barbara J. (Ronald) Booth, and her cousin and lifelong friend, Rosalie Terry, whom she cherished as a sister, as well as extended family and friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. Dorothy had a remarkable gift for nurturing others, which she shared through her successful in- home daycare. She devoted herself to shaping the lives of countless children with boundless love and guidance. Her compassionate spirit also extended to her work as a caretaker for the elderly, where she brought dignity and comfort to those in need. Dorothy’s warmth was felt not only in her actions but also in her kitchen, where her extraordinary culinary talents nourished both the body and soul of all who were fortunate enough to gather at her table. Fiercely protective of her family, Dorothy’s strength and resilience were unparalleled. She was their advocate, their defender, and their unwavering source of love. Her commitment to those she held dear perfectly mirrored Proverbs 31:25: “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.” Dorothy’s steadfast faith in God guided her through every challenge, inspiring all around her with grace and kindness. Her pride in cleanliness and order was reflected in the warm, inviting sanctuary of her home. Dorothy’s vibrant personality lit up every room she entered, whether she was dancing, tending to her beloved flowers, or hosting joyous celebrations surrounded by family and friends. She was admired for her impeccable style; always beautifully dressed, with flawless hair and nails, and a signature fragrance that left a lasting impression. Dorothy’s legacy is one of faith, love, and an unyielding devotion to her family and friends. Her memory will remain a source of comfort, inspiration, and love for generations to come. Dorothy’s strength, kindness, and grace will forever be cherished in the hearts of those whose lives she touched.
