Catalina Rivera (Acevedo) a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024 in Cambridge Manor, Fairfield, CT. Born on January 16, 1940, in Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico, Catalina moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut, at the young age of 13. She made Bridgeport her home, residing in the South End for the past 40 years. Catalina was the cherished daughter of the late Rafael Acevedo and Restituta Velazquez and was preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, Gilberto Rivera, Sr. Together, they built a beautiful life centered on love, music, and family. Catalina’s life was a testament to her nurturing and vibrant spirit. She was a devoted mother to her three children: Catalina Rivera Pagan, Marisol Rivera Barresi (Frank Barresi), and Gilberto Rivera, Jr. Her family was her greatest joy, and she ensured that their needs were always met. Catalina was the proud grandmother of Milan Angelina Barresi, Giovanni Rocco Barresi, Ezequiel Pagan (Jessica), Desiree M. Garcia, Ariel Rivera (Elizabeth), Manuel Rivera, and Gilberto Rivera III. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren: Caden, Ronan, and Jackson Pagan.  In addition to her parents Catalina was preceded in death by one brother the late Enrique Acevedo. Catalina’s passion for music and dance was a defining part of her life. In her youth, she participated in music groups that not only showcased her talent but also led to her meeting her beloved Gilberto. Her love for dancing and music brought joy to everyone around her and reflected her exuberant personality. A social and caring soul, Catalina was always there for her loved ones, spreading warmth and love wherever she went. Her legacy of kindness, strength, and passion for life will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her. Catalina is also survived by her sibling Angel Acevedo and Rafael Acevedo,who will deeply miss her presence.
