Surrounded by his family, Carmelo Acevedo Burgos was embraced by the Lord on February 10, 2018.
He was born in Cayey, Puerto Rico on January 14, 1925 to the late Jose Acevedo and Delfina Burgos. In the early 1950's he arrived to Pennsylvania to work on a farm before relocating to Bridgeport. Here he worked at the Coca Cola Company and then the Bridgeport Parks and Recreation Department where he retired. For many years he worshiped and served at the Iglesia Bautista Emanuel in Bridgeport volunteering as a bus driver. He loved to drive and did so until he was 92 when he drove his car to Waterbury every Sunday in support of a new church that was being planted there.
Besides his wife, Eva Acevedo, he is survived by his children, Angel L. Acevedo Sr., Norma I Solano, Gloria Huckaby, Marilyn Acevedo Benitez, Daniel Acevedo Sr., Dialene Acevedo, Orpha Garns, Sabrina Garns, and stepdaughter Lourdes Delgado. He was predeceased by a son Jose L. Acevedo, a stepson Jorge L. Lopez, and a granddaughter, Jessica Solano. He leaves behind 21 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, great nephews, and great nieces who will miss him dearly.
Friends are welcome to call on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at the Funeraria Luz de Paz, 426 E. Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, CT from 5:30-8:00 p.m. with a service from 7:00-8:00p.m.
Funeral Services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, in the funeral home with the Reverend William Gonzalez presiding. Carmelo will be laid to rest at Mountain Grove Cemetery, 215 Dewey Street, Bridgeport at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be offered to the Iglesia Bautista Emanuel scholarship fund.
