Carlos Nieves Alvarez, age 94, of Bridgeport entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, December 25, 2019, at Bridgeport Hospital. Carlos joins his beloved wife Beatriz of 52 years and is at rest.
Carlos was born in Juncos, Puerto Rico, son to the late Mr. Aquilino Alvarez and late Mrs. Juana Nieves Alvarez.
Carlos was born into and raised within an extensive and loving family. He is survived by his brothers and sisters Laudelino Alvarez (Juncos, PR), Aquilino Alvarez (Bridgeport, CT), Rosin Gonzalez (Miami, Florida), Ana Echavarria (Bridgeport, CT) and Sonia Rodriguez (Bridgeport, CT).
Carlos moved to Connecticut as a young man, fell in love with his wife Beatriz, and together raised two loving children, Carmen (Isadore) and Carlos Jr. (Roberta) After relocating to Bridgeport, he worked for Peerless Aluminum Foundry from which he retired many years later.
He was a quiet man of few words who worked very hard, spoke well of others, strengthened his faith in God each and every day, and approached life with dignity, respect, and commitment to family, friends, God, and country. Having played baseball as a catcher for the minor leagues in Puerto Rico, Carlos never lost his love of baseball and was a passionate New York Yankees fan his entire life. Second to his love of baseball was his love of the game of Dominoes as was evident when he became a well-known and recognized champion Dominoes player. Carlos enjoyed living life peacefully and whenever he saw someone in distress, he could often be heard advising them to “take it easy” recognizing God has a plan for everyone and will help us through all situations. In his later years, he became Bridgeport’s most tenured crossing guard and focused his energies on managing his health, reflecting on life, enjoying home-cooked meals, and living life to the fullest by his wife’s side. He was a man who hated no one and loved everyone. He will be missed by many and forgotten by none.
