Bernardita Colon, a beloved member of the community, passed away on January 17, 2024, in Shelton, CT. Born on February 21, 1931, in Cayey, Puerto Rico, Bernardita lived a remarkable life filled with love, laughter, and meaningful connections.

Bernardita worked as a machinist in the manufacturing industry for many years. Her dedication and commitment to her work were admired by colleagues and friends alike. Throughout her career, she left a lasting impact on the manufacturing industry and will always be remembered for her skill and expertise.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Bernardita had a vibrant personal life. She enjoyed music and dancing, finding solace and joy in the rhythm of life. As a devoted fan of the New York Yankees, she cheered passionately for her favorite team during baseball seasons. Additionally, Bernardita was an avid traveler who embraced new experiences and cherished every opportunity to explore different settings.

One of Bernardita's most cherished achievements was being a longtime resident of Bridgeport for over 70 years. She deeply loved her community and was an active participant in the SADA senior program. Through her involvement, she formed meaningful connections and contributed to making Bridgeport a better place for everyone.

Bernardita leaves behind a legacy of love and strength. She is the beloved widow of the late Esteban Colon. As the last-surviving member of her siblings, Bernardita held a special place in their hearts.

Her memory will forever be cherished by her children: Bernice Llanos (daughter) and Alberto Llanos (son-in-law), Lisa Colon (daughter) and Julio Algarin (son-in-law), Betty Velarde (daughter) and Javier Velarde (son-in-law), Steven Colon (son), and Viviana Cuevas (daughter-in-law), as well as her precious 8 grandchildren(Hector Rodriguez, Eric Ocasio, Jason Ocasio, Vanessa Carattini, Liana Carattini, Yesenia Llanos,Steven Colon Jr and Daniel Carattini) 9 great-grandchildren and  2 great great grandchildren.  Bernardita's nurturing spirit will live on through these cherished relationships.

Visitation services to honor Bernardita's life will be held on January 22, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Funeraria Luz De Paz located at 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport, CT, 06608. Additional visitation will take place on January 23, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the same location.

A burial service will follow on January 23, 2024, at Mt. Grove Easton Cemetery located at 100 Harvester Rd, Easton, CT, 06612. The ceremony will begin at 11:45 AM and conclude at 12:15 PM.

Bernardita Colon touched the lives of so many during her time with us. Her compassionate nature and warm smile left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have known her. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten. May she rest in eternal peace knowing that she made a difference in the world and touched hearts with her love and kindness.
